Serpentine Bar & Kitchen, Hyde Park, London W2

Back on the 12th of August a friend and I took a trip to Hyde Park with our young children, their ages ranging from five months to four years.

On arrival at the Serpentine Bar and Kitchen situated literally atop the serpentine with stunning views of the river I saw stacks of fresh produce for sale and a sign saying “our produce is free range, our coffee is fair-trade and our milk is organic.” Read More »

Yo Sushi, all over the UK

There’s something about Yo Sushi that always reminds me of The Generation Game.  I can’t help but hear Bruce Forsyth’s voice in my head saying “cuddly toy, cuddly toy” when I see the conveyor belt of colourful bowls of food travelling round the counters.

When Jack was a baby I often popped into a Yo Sushi in London or Bluewater with him for lunch.  The booths are handy for containing as well as entertaining a baby and the food (as long as you haven’t loaded it with soy sauce or wasabi) makes good finger food for a weaning or weaned baby. The Astley Arms, Seaton Sluice, Whitley Bay, Northumberland

Latest review by graphic designer, Amy Purdie of owner of Whiteacres Design:

The Astley Arms is a Crown Carveries pub.  It mainly serves a carvery – although other options are available.  We went for a family get together.  The walls are bright and the tables are clean.  The highchair Lyra sat in was clean – and as a bonus the tray had high sides so she couldn’t brush bits of food off it all over the carpet.

You order and pay at the bar and get a ticket, and then you have to queue for the carvery.  This would be a bit of a nuisance if there were only two of you as you probably wouldn’t want to leave your bags, or have the issue of carrying a baby while carrying your plate, but as there were ten of us we went up in shifts so it was OK.  Crown Carveries won the Best Branded Food Concept at the Great British Pub Food Awards 2010.
